My prior articles have all been fact based with scientific data to back up my opinion. This week, my article will have no scientific data points, and no external links to prove my understanding of hearing from The Most High God. This week, I would like to help you in hearing from Our God The Great I Am.
Who is God?
As you all are probably aware by my mentions of Bible scriptures in every article I have written, I am a Christian. The biblical understanding is that God is the Creator of the Universe we currently live in. He hung the moon, stars, Sun, planets, and provided us with the biggest sustainer or human life, Earth. He created the foundations of our atmosphere and everything around us both seen and unseen. Every good thing that is comes from the Hand of The Most High God.
God is loving, kind, generous, merciful, understanding, beautiful, majestic, mysterious in the fact that we cannot know Him completely in this present life, but we can know Him to the total capacity of our human understanding. He is considerate, and he cares about us in ways that we don’t even care about ourselves but He is not one to be seen as weak or unable. Though able to create something as delicate as the wing of a butterfly, He is also capable of making an entire nation desolate.
God is existent in 3 persons: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. God sent his son to Earth to atone for our shortcomings and through Jesus’ life on Earth, He bestowed us with the power of the Holy Spirit.

Who are Jesus and the Holy Spirit?
Jesus is the son of God. He is the only begotten son and was sent to Earth to make the ultimate sacrifice for our sins. This may sound super dramatic, but if we consider the ancient times and people, we will be able to easily recover that all ancients practiced a form of religion and held very closely to their gods. Wars were fought for gods, children and animals were sacrificed for gods, and nations were taken and renamed in honor of the gods. Most of the religions of old are no longer existent but the one who is the most discussed and notable is Jesus Christ of Nazareth.
Jesus was born to average parents. You would think that the son of the Holy One of Israel would be one born to kings and queens, but instead, He was born in a manger to a carpenter and a virgin. This is extremely significant as it displays God’s love for all people and everyone’s ability to seek after, follow and hear the voice of God despite socioeconomic status.
Through Jesus’s murder and resurrection, Christians have been endowed with the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of God and lives within us to help us with understanding, discernment, judgement, recalling of scripture, and prayer. Through prayer, we are able to speak with God and hear the voice of God in the name of Jesus.
What is prayer and how do I pray?
Prayer is our way of communicating with God. Just as we pick up the phone to speak with our family members and loved ones, prayer is a form of communication used to consult with God, tell him our troubles, and get direction or advice for life’s challenges.
When first beginning to pray, there are no exact words needed. You just search your heart and find the words that truly express what it is you want to ask God or talk to him about. I would also suggest that you thank him for something good in your life. This will be a way of presenting yourself, with gratitude, to the Creator of the Universe. When you pray, you should also open your heart and allow the Spirit of God to come to you and respond to your inquiry. I usually begin my prayers with thanksgiving and in the name of Jesus. I also end my prayers in the name of Jesus.

My first experience with praying and Jesus
I was around 15 years old, struggling with hating myself, extremely depressed, and addicted to pornography. I was apart of a Bible Study at school but only to be apart of a group. I had no real belief in God nor did I respect him. One day, my peers informed me that Revelations was the scariest book in the Bible. I had been through some troubling things in my childhood and felt that there was nothing more scary than what I had endured and decided that I would read the book to prove I wasn’t a punk!
By the end of reading the book, my heart immediately recognized the truth that I had been blind to. I dropped down on my knees and asked for forgiveness for all of the bad things I had said about him, what I had been doing, and what I had done in my life. In this moment of crying and regret, I immediately felt the hands of Jesus on my shoulders. I abruptly stopped praying and looked around to see who was in the room with me. There was no physical being there, but the warm hands felt like a glow and I knew that I had come into the spirit of God. I wept even louder and intensely as I accepted the power of God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit.
From that day forward, I have walked imperfectly with God, but walking nonetheless. Over time, I have come to know the voice of God and how to hear him.
What does God sound like?
Hearing God’s voice is a gift that in truth, everyone has. What I mean by in truth is that you shouldn’t go to God to test him and see if he is real or not as the heart would be considered impure. You should go to God with earnest seeking of a relationship with him and to the best of your abilities, an upright heart.
God speaks in a way that is not like humans. He speaks directly to the soul. That’s not to say that he doesn’t speak audibly, on occasion, he absolutely will but for the most part, he speaks to the soul. There is an undoubtable understanding when you ask something of him and he responds in a manner that moves you. It may fill you completely on the inside or it may be a response that you understand is the answer to your question.

Jeremiah 29:12-13
Then you will call upon Me and come and pray to Me, and I will listen to you. You will seek Me and find Me when you search for Me with all your heart.
With Love,
Mother Ocia
